  1. As it is stated, it seems to be a descriptive research (correlational). You need to find more elements in the study to determine if this an example of experimental study. Was there any treatment involved, besides questionnaires and tests? More analysis is needed.

  2. In addition, The research is focus in two main questions that are: 1) How many years of English do pupils need at elementary and secondary school levels to be proficient enough for college subject-matter instruction in English? 2) Are the prevalent teaching approaches – be they communicative or grammar-oriented
    – still appropriate for the increased demand for academic uses of English while studying at university within an English speaking context or while studying primarily from English academic texts?
The author wants to prove that many of the students do not understand the English books and that they need at least 97% of the vocabulary to gain adequate understanding of the text.
The participants were selected from the first semester of the English Language and Literature majors in 2001/2002. The sample represented 40% of the entire population of first semester. The questionnaire revealed that all the students had 8 years of English education.
There were two different tests that were applied to the students the Nation's Level Test and the Academic Word List.
The Vocabulary Levels Tests and the questionnaire were administered to students in a large introductory lecture on English literature six weeks after the beginning of the winter semester.
The results revealed that many students are not prepare for study English in the university, and also that that most of them do not speak English outside the classroom. Despite the 8 years of English instruction most of the students do not seem to have acquired a good vocabulary.
In conclusion, the author established that schools should focus more on vocabulary learning and vocabulary learning strategies so that students can learn new vocabulary.
