The thesis of our partners Estephanía Zacarías and Delmy Pat is going to be called…

Associtation Between Stressful Factors and Academic Achievement in English Language Students at Uqroo.

The design of our partner’s research is a descriptive- qualitative study. They want to know the relationship between achievement and stressful factors; if stress affects learning, how does stress affects achievement. They want to work in this project based on students learning English as a second language at the University of Quintana Roo and they are going to do some questionnaires to collect the data of their work.

What is the author’s main argument? What conclusions are drawn?

The author’s main argument is to promote motivation among his high school students.

His conclusion is how motivation influences in second language learning and the motivational strategies that can help teachers to have a better understanding about the role of motivation in learning a foreign language.

What evidence does the author put forward to support the argument and conclusion?

He did a questionnaire including cognitive, affective, and social strategies based on Chastain’s model (1988) that it was developed, piloted and validated.

What is your view of this evidence? Can you spot any weaknesses in the methodology, the findings and the way that the conclusions are drawn?

We think this research is really good because it is similar to what we want to do for our thesis and we consider that the research questions and all the data were interesting and we can have an idea of what we are going to face when we start with the questionnaires, etc.

Has the author made any implicit assumptions about shared beliefs which you, the reader, you might question?

There aren’t assumptions that we, as readers, might question. We believe that this research is very good, clear, and related to our thesis. Nevertheless, The author says that more research has been conducted on identifying and analyzing various motives and validating motivational theories than on developing techniques to increase motivation. We wonder why this research hasn’t been done.

I'm a full-time student at the University of Quintana Roo. I really love my major, learning languages,travelling,doing sport,reading,going to the cinema, and speding time with my family and friends.I want to enhance my knowledge about knowing how to do research.I would like to keep on studying and I also hope to become a wonderful teacher and do my best to make my students learn.Something that almost anybody knows about me is that I would really like to learn to play the violin because I enjoy listening to classical music and that I suffer from Hypothtroidism. :)

Hi! My name is Estefanía Villanueva

I'm 23 years old and I am a full-time student in the University of Quintana Roo, I am studying the English language major and I have to say that I really love the major. My favorite color is blue although I do not have many things of this color, my favorite food is spaghetti. I have two dogs that I love so much, their names are Cherry and Nala and they are really pretty :) , also I have one niece named Valentina she is 1 year old and I love her with all my heart oh! and she is beautiful :).

Next year that I finish the major I want to go to the U.S. or England to study a master degree, I really hope to be able to accomplish this goal.
